Geigenbau am Dom - Eva Lämmle München

Ancient Tradition

Pure handcraft

In the workshop violins, violas and cellos are built by hand. The work steps and tools are largely still in the centuries-old violin making tradition. The construction of a violin for example comprises about 150 operations and takes at least 200 hours.

Tone wood

Stored for many years

eva_laemmle_geigenbau_jahrelange_lagerung

Used for the tops, fine-grained and lightweight spruce wood from altitudes of 1300 to 2000 m. The spruce wood comes from the Bavarian Alps and South Tyrol, cut right after the perfect phase of the moon.

For backs, necks and ribs, I use the best mountain maplewood from Bosnia and Scotland. All wood is stored for at least 10 years before it is processed.

Classic models

Individual character

eva_laemmle_geigenbau_individueller_charakter

Mostly modelled after classic Italian models such as Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù, new instruments are created as one of a kind with individual character.

Old instruments have already established their sound. For new instruments, it is an exciting and interesting process for the player to witness and influence this development.
