Two weeks to go until the Munich Violin Days

in the Mars-Venus Hall of the Bavarian National Museum from 6 October to 23 October 2022

The Munich Violin Days are fast approaching, with only two weeks to go!
I would like to cordially invite you to this unique event: 30 workshops, i.e. 28 violin makers and 4 bow makers, will present their current, handmade unique pieces. This extraordinary event is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and has become an integral part of Munich’s cultural life.
This year, 25 violins, 20 violas, 16 cellos and 16 bows can be played by expert visitors in the hands-on exhibition during exhibition hours.

Once again this year, many renowned artists have been recruited for the concerts, which will be played exclusively on the new instruments and with new bows.
The musicians change instruments and bows several times during the concert so that the audience can hear the instruments in comparison. Maximilian Hornung and Ingolf Turban have announced that they will play all instruments of their genre during their concerts.

Lectures on bow making, violin making, tone wood, dendrochronology, the golden ratio and the history of the violin will offer an interesting insight into the work of violin and bow makers.

Lectures on bow making, violin making, sound wood, dendrochronology, the golden ratio and the history of the violin offer an interesting insight into the work of violin and bow makers.

This year, for the first time, there will also be sound samples. Musicians will play all the instruments of a genre one after the other in short passages, each lasting approx. 1 minute in two rounds, whereby different demands on the instrument will be made audible. For example, a passage in which the response and balance can be heard clearly, in another passage the behaviour of the instrument in forte and piano can be compared.
The instruments are played anonymously behind a screen and at the end of the event it is announced who made which instrument.
